i remember.. not vividly, but i remember how my grandfather used to stuff melody or eclairs in his shirt pocket and how id be thrilled to see him whenever he was around.. id march upto him, allow him to lift me and id perform a thorough inspection of his pocket and once the treasure has been retrieved, i settle cozily in his safe laps and begin consuming my loot.. my mom always scolded her dad for this.. "his teeth wil become marshmallows!.. dont keep givin him sweets!!".. but then, u cant blame him, grandparents and grandkids share a unique bond.. very rarely will it waver from the path of sweetness, safety and unconditional love found nowhere else.
even more rare is wen 1 of the 2 gets mad at the other.. its not even imaginable.. can u conjure images of a mom AND a grandmom/grandad berating a kid over spilt milk, rasam, curry or curd for example? the mom might chide, scold and make the kid believe they had dropped plutonium and spread radiation.. but the grandparent will dish out the camera and click, roll.. click, roll.
its like, grandparents spend entire lives doin wat we'l do eventually.. live it out..earn money, build a career, relationships, family.. the works.. and wen its time to take that longawaited break, its grandchildren time!.. its no mere coincidance... its almost magical to see the chemistry between grandparents and grandkids.. both are in it for the fun.. mom's busy in kitchen or work, so kid has grandma's lap or grandpa's shins to stand on and play pretend rocking horse.
i remember hating karate class as an 8-yr-old.. and it so happened that i was left in the charge of my grandparents that afternoon.. the karate thing was in the evening slot, an hour of it.. sometime between 5 n 6 i guess... and being the genius i am, i devised a last minute cunning stunt... i flicked a red marker and sketched an unmistakable fake scar on my left knee.. and then i proceeded to limp my way until evening got done with... and wat an act!.. they both bought it and allowed me to stay home and nurse the hurt... "yes! plan working".. and the moment the clock chimed 6, i was back to my usual nonlimping self.. they havent trusted me since with issues pertaining to the knee hehe. In the bargain, i got an invaluable tale to tell my grandkids!
hehe.. old trick's always a charm.. i've done tht bit too.. nice reminder man!
